Everyone has their own opinion on what they should do with it, I've even read somewhere that they should "buy Hollywood". I know it sounds idealistic to say but what if every iPhone, iPad, Macbook was made in the United States? (That would be another 1 Billion dollars a week staying in the United States). Of course it would cost 2-3 times more at least, but what could it do for our economy? Not to take anything away from the stories of the conditions of the factories, but still it is an interesting thought.

Technology & Cloud Computing

<o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="City"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="place"></o:smarttagtype>
There seems to be a tremendous buzz around cloud computing with techies and non techies alike. Conceptually it sounds great “do more with less”. Essentially cloud computing is using off site virtualized services over the internet that would traditionally be hosted on site. As with any new technology there will be growing pains along with it. Remember 802.11b WiFi? How long did it take to get WEP and WPA? Security always seems to be an afterthought with technology. I think that this can be good and bad. You don’t want to stifle technology so it never gets off of the ground but you also want to know the risks before you get in over your head. In my opinion Cloud Computing will change IT in the next 3-4 years and force IT to rethink the way it provides services. This is a good thing. I don’t imagine in the near future where I would be in a position to be an early adopter of this technology and figure out all of the kinks. I’m usually in the position that needs to deliver solid products and recommend solid solutions.

Drawbacks of Cloud Computing

-Lose control over data-Who is really managing your data?

-Slow access-No longer over Ethernet 100/1000

-Security issues-Who really has access to your data?

Barriers to Cloud Computing

-Internet Speed-Over the past 10 years, Internet speed is the only technology that has not followed Moore’s or increased significantly. Mostly due to infrastructure. Will cellular access and Obama’s administration change that?

-Failure-Since more servers will be virtualized or consolidated if one goes down so will a few others. “More eggs in one basket”
